In dentistry, prosthetics is generally understood to mean dentures, through which the tooth substance and teeth are reproduced as naturally as possible for the patient. We offer various options and techniques for making dentures. Thanks to our extensive experience with larger and smaller dental restorations, we can advise our patients in detail.

Confident demeanor

If people have to accept the loss of a tooth or several teeth, this means not only aesthetic impairment, but also functional problems with possible effects on dental health. If a tooth is missing, it can not only be perceived as annoying by the person affected, but also noticeably affect life. Because in everyday life, at work and in private life, missing teeth are noticed by fellow human beings.

Well-groomed teeth are extremely important in many ways. Carious teeth and tooth gaps are a sign of poor care and gnaw at self-confidence. Prosthetics can help restore both function and aesthetics here. The patient receives a denture that can no longer be distinguished from natural teeth. In doing so, it contributes to well-being and a confident demeanor.

Differences in prosthetics

A general distinction is made between fixed dentures, removable dentures and a combination of both. While the first variant is attached directly to the jaw, the second includes the so-called prostheses: dentures that the patient can insert and remove independently. In the third variant, we combine the advantages of fixed dentures with the flexibility of removable elements (implant prosthetics). All three types require conscientious care and regular control in order to be able to perform their function permanently and reliably.

In our practice, we offer the following types of dentures as part of prosthetics:

Fixed dentures

• Crowns
  A crown is an attachment or covering for the tooth that restores its original shape. It completely envelops the rest of the tooth, which needs a crown for maintenance and stability after major caries treatment or root canal treatment, for example.
• Partial crowns
  With a partial crown, the tooth is only partially encased or a partial area of ​​the tooth crown is stabilized. Here, the chewing surface is redesigned.
• Bridges
  A bridge is used to close a tooth gap if there is still healthy tooth substance. To do this, you grind the neighboring teeth and crown them. The gap is closed by a pontic between the abutment teeth.
• Inlays
  With an inlay, the tooth is only partially replaced and not the entire chewing surface. The cusps are retained. Inlays are made from a dental impression in the dental laboratory and then fitted.
• Veneers
  Veneers are thin, translucent ceramic shells that are applied to the tooth surface – especially of the front teeth – with a special adhesive. This gives the visible surfaces of the teeth an optimized appearance. With veneers, slight tooth misalignments, tooth gaps, unsatisfactory tooth colors and local discolorations can be corrected.
• Lumineers
  Lumineers are an extremely thin type of veneer that is glued to the tooth using the so-called non-prep technique, without the tooth having to be ground beforehand. They are particularly gentle on the tooth substance.

For fixed dentures, we usually use tooth-colored ceramic restorations, but also gold and other non-precious metals. Through our collaboration with master laboratories in Berlin, we enable our patients to have high-quality dentures.

Removable dentures

• Full denture
  With a full denture, the entire row of teeth in a jaw is replaced. It can be used if no implants are desired or possible.
• Model cast prosthesis (partial denture)
  In the case of model cast prostheses, there are still their own teeth, so that a complete row of teeth is not necessary. A partial denture is attached to the natural teeth using brackets.
• Telescopic prosthesis (partial prosthesis)
  If only a few teeth are left, a telescopic prosthesis can be the solution. The existing teeth are crowned with an inner crown on which the telescopic prosthesis is placed with a matching outer part. The advantage is that compared to a clasp prosthesis there is no aesthetic impairment and better chewing comfort is possible.
• Attachment work (partial denture)
  Attachment work consists of a fixed and a removable part. The attachment attaches to the fixed teeth and serves as a holding element for the removable part to which the missing teeth are attached.

Implant prosthetics

With implant prosthetics, we use implants as the basis for dentures. In contrast to the methods listed above, existing teeth are spared with implants; grinding or removal of tooth substance is not necessary. The fixed artificial teeth also make it more comfortable for the patient to wear. We also combine implants with superstructures (removable dentures) and implant individual teeth. This type of prosthetic restoration is very permanent, but also requires thorough dental care.
